I just finished this one a few minutes ago It's a portrait of the "Wise Guys" a german a cappella/vocal pop group which is quite successful in Germany. They are five of the few musicians I've actually seen live on stage (well worth it, by the way).
So, some technical details: - DIN A3 Hahnemühle Nostalgie paper (190g/m²) - graphite pencil (mostly B or 2B) - reference and a 2cm grid - a few hours (I don't know excactly but I've been working on it during the last 48 hours - not constantly though )
Sorry for the quality, my scanner doesn't like A3 much and my phone isn't really up to the task. I'll try to get a good scan later.
It's a bit different from my usual kind of work, but I like it. I did my usually linework and started marking some shaded areas with crosshatching and I kinda liked the way it looked, so I kept it that way. Didn't take as long, either What do you think? Do you like this or do you prefer my usual photorealistic stuff? Or do you like both? Or neither?
In case you're wondering what they sound like: [link] (Lass die Sonne scheinen) [link] (Sorge dich nicht)
For those who know the Wise Guys and know that Ferenc is going to leave the group at the end of this year - I didn't plan this or anything but I was listening to their music while drawing and when I added the finishing touches the song that came up was "Wir hatten eine gute Zeit". I guess it's a sign to give this to Ferenc if I get the chance
This is quite good. the anatomy and the expressions are great. The only fault I can find is the fact that their shirts and hair fade into the background. It could probably be fixed by darkening the shading on them so their closer in tone to their faces. Other that that, this is great! The composition is good, and, as I said before, so is their expression and the anatomy.
Wow, you've done an excellent job at drawing everyone's face! Especially that one man in the front with his arm up The shading of his neck looks excellent to me and his expression looks realistic and very well shaded^^ The other man in the front looks pretty good, to me, too, however his other eye and eyebrow look a little odd in comparison to the other eye and eyebrow. Like... His eyebrows are in an odd line. I know there are people with unsymmetrical faces like that, but it still srikes to me as odd. The way his ear connects to his head looks a little awkward to me, too. The man in the middle of the back line has also something about the shape of his head and the positioning of his left ear (from our point of view) but I can't exactly put my finger on it.
The comporition works and the shading of their heads is excellent! I'm a little sad that their bodies aren't shaded as strongly, if you know what I mean. It might be the scanning, but the shading of the clothes needs some darker areas in my opinion.
The hands of the man with the microphone look very good and realistic! I like the way you've shaded his left hand, holding the microphone The shading of the hand of the man in front of him also looks very good. There appears to be something about the rest of the men's hands, though. Some of their fingers look kind of awkward to me and maybe you could've used slightly more shading. I would've also paid more attention to knuckles, but it might just be a personal preference.
I hope you'll stick to pencils because I admire the way this picture seems to have a lot of life to it in my opinion
Wow, thanks for that long reply! All your points are spot on and I'm definitely going to look into them, checking with the references, before I give this piece away. Sometimes things just do look weird, even on the original photograph I put some thought into the shading and darkness of the piece. You pointed out correctly that their clothes don't have as detailed shading. I wanted to have the focus on their expressions and hands (that's also why the hair is only suggested) and I already darkened the clothes several times, but I know what you mean. I'll see whether I can put in some darker shadows here and there I think I need to adjust the overall tones so their faces don't stick out too much (like the very right one's eye does right now). Anyways, thanks a lot, comment's such as yours is why #GimmeFeedback is such an awesome group

Well done!
